FIRST TRANSFER!
July 11, 2022
Transfers are an important part of the missionary work. New faces, new companions and pumping new life back into areas of the mission
Today we had our much anticipated transfer. We have only been in the mission for 2 weeks so unsure of how this would all play out, we moved forward with a plan and wondered how it would all unfold.
We arrived at the Cancun airport around 9:00am, parked our car and walked to the terminal. They would not let us in so we had to wait outside. We did not know how long it would take our missionaries to come out or if they even knew where to go. We waited and waited and began to become a little concerned. The guard outside told us that no more flights were arriving at this terminal. We were at the terminal where the planes come from within Mexico as most of our missionaries were coming from the Mexico MTC. After sometime people began coming out and we soon saw 6 of the 8 missionaries (2 were arriving later in the day) What a beautiful sight it was. We have looked at these missionaries pictures but to finally meet them in person and give them hugs was very special. We took them to our home and had treats for them and President met with each one individually. We then went to the stake center where they met their trainers, had lunch and spent some time training. President and I left to go back to the airport to pick up 2 more missionaries who were coming from Michigan and the Provo MTC. Once again we waited and waited and after 1 hour of waiting we became very nervous because this terminal it was very difficult to know where to go. Finally they both arrived and we did a repeat of the earlier arrivals.
We also said painful good-byes to 7 stellar missionaries who we are confident we have loved much longer than 2 weeks. Can you stay longer please! Even though we don’t know these missionaries well they have a special place in our hearts. Monday evening we took them to dinner and then brought them to our home to visit with them for a while. These are amazing young men and women and we will miss having them here in the mission with us. President also interviewed all of our departing missionaries. There is something powerful in their stories and we hope to continue our relationships with them and hear more.
