HURRICANE MILTON CATEGORY 5!
What a crazy hurricane season it has been. Would you believe we just had our 3rd hurricane of the year!
We had been watching this storm shortly after hurricane Helene. At first they thought it might be a copycat hurricane but after a few days it seemed to go away or so we thought. A few days later we were told that it was now in the Gulf of Mexico and that it would develop. Oh good its in the gulf so it won't affect us ~ WRONG! On Sunday October 6, 2024 I started to truly track the storm again and saw that it could come close by some parts of our mission and would be a strong hurricane. I mentioned to Presidente that night that maybe we should move our Hermanas off the island of Isla Mujeres just to be safe, so Monday morning they came to Cancun. On Monday morning we had gone to the mission office for our usual meeting with the Assistants. While in our meeting Presidente gets a call from church security/protection and guess what...we need to move more missionaries out of their areas as Hurricane Milton was now a strong category 5 Hurricane and will affect some of our mission!! With the Assistants help we put a plan in place and began calling the 2 zones that we would be moving. Within 3 hours our missionaries were safely in their new area for the time being. Presidente and I went home and planned a mission zoom call for around 5:30pm sharing the news about the hurricane and what zones it would affect. It affected 5 of our 8 zones, our 3 Cancun zones, Valladolid and Tizimin zones. We gave strict instructions and left a blessing on the mission and blessed our neighboring mission (the Merida Mission) as they too were being affected. Shortly after the call I started to hear noises outside and come to find out maintenance was here boarding up our house. WHAT? Maybe this Hurricane will affect us more than we thought. Well the Lord truly blessed us and Hurricane Milton once again turned a little and didn't cause much harm to our mission. But we can now say we have survived 3 hurricanes!
